Never before have the Junos been described for the blind and vision impaired. CTV made the decision, this was the year to do it.
CTV approached Diane Johnson, the CEO of Descriptive Video Works and asked if they were up for the challenge and they were. Harold Wesley, CTV Director of Operations says, “We were absolutely delighted with the show. We are planning on DV’ing So you think you can Dance Canada when the new season airs in September.”
Descriptive Video Works for the past 7 years have completed described video on thousands of shows, including The Bridge, Hiccups, Corner Gas, Shattered, W5, and hundreds of feature films.

David Errington as New President & CEO

Toronto, ON (July 7, 2009): It is with great pleasure that we welcome David Errington to our team as the new President and CEO of The National Broadcast Reading Service Inc. (NBRS) and The Accessible Channel (TACtv), effective July 7, 2009. NBRS is a registered boutique media charity serving more than 5 million Canadians who cannot independently access media and print information due, for example, to vision-restrictions, learning or physical disabilities, low literacy skills or other impairments associated with aging.
The announcement was made by Chair of NBRS, John Capobianco. Mr. Capobianco states, "We are honoured and ecstatic to have such an experienced and dynamic person join our team as leader helping to further our promise of making media accessible. I am confident that David will continue to foster our mandate while furthering the ways in which we can increase media accessibility for the community we serve."
Mr. Errington has almost seventeen years broadcast experience, twelve of which were spent at The Score. David's most recent accomplishment was serving as Executive Vice President and Co-Chief Operating Officer at Score Media for the past two years. David was responsible for programming, sales, marketing and all technical operations across all Score Media assets, including broadcast, broadband, satellite radio and mobile. Particularly, David was responsible for the implementation and execution of a technical rebuild of Score Television Network over to high definition broadcast standards. He managed the development of Score.com to a social media site targeted to sports enthusiasts and assisted in the development and execution of Score Mobile applications that are now available on all major wireless telco's across Canada.
Betty Nobel, Chair of The Accessible Channel-TACtv, states, "With the recent launch of TACtv, it is at no better time that we can welcome Mr. Errington, someone who has a great understanding of and involvement in the broadcast industry sharing his expertise and knowledge with our organization to better serve our audience."

Baine joins Descriptive Video

Descriptive Video Works has tapped former CHUM executive Ellen Baine to manage its new Toronto office, as part of an expansion that coincides with the Vancouver company's fifth anniversary.
Baine, who was VP of programming at CHUM, will oversee business development for DVW, effective immediately. She will report to president Diane Johnson.
"We're delighted to have Ellen on board as we celebrate five years of service within the industry. Our team is stronger than ever as we bring an exceptional breadth and depth of broadcast industry experience to every project," commented Johnson in a release.
Launched in 2003, DVW specializes in providing descriptive video and closed-captioning services for the blind and vision-impaired. Its clients include CTV, Canwest, CBC and Discovery Channel, and the company has completed described video on series such as Corner Gas, Flashpoint and The Guard.
